5,000 Pound Challenge for Galesburg
Local college students were collecting food and donations for the local food pantries Saturday, as well as for a national challenge.

Students from Carl Sandburg College's Students In Free Entereprise were at Walmart collecting canned goods and other non-perishable items for the Galesburg Food Bank.

Student Joe Gembala tells WGIL the challenge is part of a national effort from the Campbell's Soup Company.

"And they've challenged us to help raise hunger awareness in Galesburg, to help educate people on how to get out of the hunger cycle and then to help affect immediate need, which is what we're doing out here [Saturday]."

The goal that SIFE wants to accomplish is to collect 5,000 pounds of food.

Even if they don't reach that goal, Gembala says they will still be happy they could help out the community in some way.
