Police Investigating Suspected $5K Quarter Theft
Galesburg Police are still looking to link all the missing pieces in the case of the missing quarters.

Sunday morning police reports indicate officers were called to the Hy-Vee grocery store on East Main Street regarding a large amount of quarters being cashed in.

The man apparently used a Coinstar machine to cash in 1,559 quarters.

A store told police that she got all the information from the man who cashed in the quarters.

Later reports from police are connecting that to a robbery that happened late Saturday at a home in the 600 block of North West Street in Galesburg, where approximately $5,000 of quarters were stolen.

At the residence, police were contacted by a caretaker who said he noticed a red towel and a plastic sack outside the home's front door.

Further investigation lead to police finding a broken window in a bedroom hallway.

The home's owner eventually told police that he had a safe in that room containing $5,000 of quarters and other money.

The case us still under investigation by police. No suspects are in custody.
