LaHood: Caterpillar Letter is an Opportunity
State Senator Darin LaHood spent more time in Galesburg Monday.

While in town, LaHood told WGIL that he is hearing a lot from constituents about frustration with state government over finances.

When asked about the letter CEO of Caterpillar Incorporated, Doug Oberhelman, sent to Governor Pat Quinn about the recent tax hike, LaHood says he sees it as an opportunity.

"From that standpoint, I think that [Oberhelman] sent to Governor Quinn, really is an olive branch to the state," LaHood said. "I don't take it as a threat. But what I take it as is, this is a real wake-up call for our state. If a company like Caterpillar, that has 20,000 employees in this state, one of the largest employers, they're getting enticed by four other states at least that 'you can come to our state and do business better.' I think it reflects or is indicative of an anti-business climate in Illinois. And we have to switch that."

LaHood talked with officials from the county health department, local colleges, and the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce among other things while in Galesburg Monday.
