Museum to Display Blood-Stained Lincoln Gloves
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- They are poignant reminders of one of the most shocking episodes in American history.

They're the blood-stained gloves President Abraham Lincoln carried with him the night he was shot at point-blank range by John Wilkes Booth.

The gloves go on display as ``the artifacts of the month'' in April at Springfield's Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

Curator James Cornelius says the kid-leather gloves were in Lincoln's left pocket when he was shot in the head while watching a play in 1865.

Each month, a different notable artifact from the recently acquired Taper Collection will be featured. The collection of around 1,500 items includes Lincoln's iconic stovepipe hat and the first known sample of Lincoln's writing from 1824.

The gloves will be on display until April 30.
