Ill. Superintendents Skeptical of Consolidation
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- A proposal from Gov. Pat Quinn to consolidate the number of school districts in Illinois has school superintendents skeptical.

The State Journal-Register in Springfield reports Monday that the issues has many superintendents saying there's a steep price to losing local control. Edinburg school superintendent Lynda Irvin says she feels strongly about having local input in decision making.

Quinn's plan would consolidate the 868 school districts in Illinois to about 300. He has formed a commission to study the plan. Eliminating school administrator salaries could save $100 million.

Greenview School Superintendent Gary DePatis says schools play a vital role in small communities that should be considered.
