No "Google in Galesburg"
FIRST REPORTED 12:00pm 3/30/11 An ultra high-speed broadband internet network will not be coming to Galesburg.

Tech giant Google announced on its official company blog Wednesday it has signed a development agreement with officials in Kansas City, Kansas for that city to be the city for Google to make ultra high speed internet work in.

Galesburg was one of nearly 1,100 cities that applied for the network. Locally, a "Google in Galesburg" website was created, and a rally was held this time last year in front of the old locomotive at the Galesburg Railroad Museum.

Google says their network, when connected, would provide internet service roughly 100-times faster than typical internet service most people have today.

Google's blog says they found in Kansas City, Kansas "a location where we could build efficiently, make an impact on the community, and develop relationships with local government and community organizations."

Google says their network will be up and running as soon as next year.
