Local Congressman Heads To Middle East
The area's local Congressman says he's just back from a trip to Afghanistan.

17th District Republican Bobby Schilling says he made an official visit to the Mideast, but the statement issued by his office doesn't say when that was.

Schilling does say he met with troops and military leaders there to get a sense of the situation, and says it was important for him to do so.

Schilling says the recent increase of U.S. troops in that region is helping keep insurgents and terrorists at bay, and believes troops have made "great progress killing or capturing terrorist cells."

The Colona resident says he is both impressed with, and inspired by the troops' work, and also believes that the government needs to continue to fully fund the military, so the operation in Afghanistan can be completed.

Schilling says this country's security continues to be at stake.
