February 2011: One of Illinois' Wettest
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- According to the state of Illinois' climatologist, February was more than just a little bit on the wet side.

Jim Angel said Monday last month was actually the 10th wettest since statewide weather records started being kept in 1895.

Statewide average precipitation was 3.39 inches. That is almost an inch and a half more than normal.

Angel said snowfall was responsible for much of that total. Much of northern Illinois had more than 20 inches of snow in February. Chicago had a record 29 inches.

He said temperatures were on the whole just below normal, averaging 29.5 degrees.
