LaHood Ready to Repeal Income Tax Hike
New state Senator Darin LaHood promised to be a fiscal conservative when he was recently appointed to replace Dale Risinger.

The Peoria Republican is aiming to keep that promise by signing on to a major piece of legislation this week.

LaHood will co-sponsor Senate Bill 78, which aims to repeal the recent income tax increase.

He tells WGIL, it's a good way to demonstrate where he sits on fiscal solutions.

"This bill really reflects my first piece of legislation that I've sponsored," LaHood said. "But, it's monumental in the sense that that's where I stand. I don't believe we should be increasing taxes to continue to fund things that are out of control in the state."

Senator Matt Murphy of Palatine is the bill's main sponsor, and was introduced in a Senator sub-committee Monday afternoon.

The tax increase, passed in January, raised the personal income tax rate 67-percent and the corporate rate by 46-percent.

LaHood says Illinois needs to focus on creating a better business climate in the state, not driving businesses away.
