Knoxville Continues Cemetery Talk
New rules for having a family memorial have changed recently, with the Knoxville City Council voting on several measures at their meeting Monday night.

One new idea was to change how memorial plaques are placed next to grave sites, since cemetery groundskeepers have to move them to get any mowing done.

Cemetery Committee Chair Jim McGovern, answered the council's questions as to how to fix the problems the cemetery groundskeepers face on a day to day basis.

"As long as they've got it out of the yard, so we don't have to mow around it, or trip around it, we don't care, but if it's out in the yard you got to move it around and take the effort to do it. You know one is nothing, but if you have 30, 40, 50 of them, it takes time to do it."

Other regulations for grave sites that were passed at the meeting included where solar lights should be placed on headstones.
