Changes in Knox County Republican Party
The Knox County Republican Party will be undergoing some changes April first, that the party chair says aren't politically motivated.

Mark Young says he'll be stepping down from his post as chair, and will be handing over the reins to Knox County Board Member Bill Abel.

Young tells WGIL seven years as head of the local party is simply long enough.

"I'm just kind of burnt out a little bit, I think it's good for every organization to have some new blood from time to time, move in, and go from there. I'm not upset with the party in any way, in fact I'm as conservative and as active as ever, it's just that I think I want to do other things."

Young says he believes the party is in a better position now than when he took over in 2004, especially given that the county helped elect Republican Bobby Schilling to the 17th Congressional District seat long held by Democrats.

Lowell Mannhardt is also stepping down as the party's treasurer, and will be replaced by County Board member Wayne Saline.

Meantime, Louisa Buck is the new chair of the Knox County Democratic Party, replacing the late Norm Winick.
