Governor Stands Behind Consolidation Proposal
(IRN)-The consolidation of school districts across Illinois is coming if Governor Pat Quinn gets his way.

Quinn says the state should move quickly to consolidate some school districts. "I think we have to be focused on children in Illinois, not on administrators," Quinn said. He says the state should take that overhead costs and redirect the dollars back to the classroom.

"When we invest in education, we're not really putting our money in investing in, you know, school district superintendents, many of whom make salaries far beyond what I make," Quinn said. "I think [there are] 270 that make more than the governor."

Quinn acknowledges that in the past there has been resistance to talks of consolidation. He says he will be working hard to see changes in the near future.
