Jobs Will Keep Galesburg Alive Says Council Candidates
The question: How do you see Galesburg in the next five and ten years, and how do you feel we can make Galesburg more attractive to keep people here and draw in more?

Candidates for Galesburg city alderman answered that question along with a number of other last(Tuesday) night at a candidate forum.

Write in candidate for ward 3, Chuck Reynolds, says it's all about the right types of jobs.

"I think what we need to concentrate on is attracting smaller new businesses to Galesburg. We are not going to find another Maytag to come through."

Incumbent candidate Russell Fleming says there won't be a Galesburg in five or ten years without jobs, but more needs done to attract them.

"We are trying to create an atmosphere where companies can come here. We need to maintain our image of infrastructure so five years or ten years from now its not worse than it is now. It's not the greatest right now."

The forum was held at the public library and put on by the Young Professionals of Galesburg, the Knox County Area Project, the Hispanic Latino Resource Group, and the Center in Galesburg.
