Lease Extension Approved for Warren County Wind Farm
A project that will bring wind turbines to county owned land in Warren County could get off the ground after all.

The Warren County Board voted nine to five Wednesday night to approve a four year extension of a lease of land along US 67 four miles south of Monmouth with Monarch Wind Farms that was needed, they say, because of a lengthy zoning process and other issues that have kept the turbines from going up.

County Board member Sean Cavanaugh was in favor of the lease extension, and tells WGIL there's no reason not to support the extension.

"Once these turbines start spinning and providing income and electricity, I think people are really going to see the benefits of them, and it's right for the county. The county is always looking for new revenue sources and this is a very clean one."

That revenue, Cavanaugh says, will come from permits and other things, and the county makes money per megawatt of energy generated from each of the turbines to be placed on the land.

County board members opposed to the extension claimed the lease doesn't protect all the parties involved, and that they didn't know much about Monarch's representative who has been working on the project.
