Monmouth College Aims at Fulfilling Promises in Strategic Plan
A new strategic plan for Monmouth College reflects upon fulfilling promises because their president says students' needs today aren't all that different from the 19th Century.

President Mauri Ditzler delivered highlights of the plan on campus Thursday afternoon. The plan was recently approved by the board of trustees.

Ditzler tells WGIL Monmouth will define "what college was meant to be"-- and without making any new promises.

"The world doesn't need to hear any new promises from colleges, we've been making promises for hundreds of years," he said. "What they really need us to do is to actually deliver on those. They need us to fulfill our promises."

And Monmouth College plans on fulfilling those promises through 2025 by improving the perceived value of education.

Ditzler outlined four key principles to the strategic plan on Thursday-- promoting active learning, inspiring students to lead, preparing them to solve complex problems, and finally, guiding students to discover meaningful careers and a purpose in life.

He says each of the four elements will lean on shared and integrative studies, as well as innovative and off-campus research. The college is also putting a premium on co-curricular activities.

According to Ditzler, the plan serves as Monmouth's "North Star," and it will only be useful if all of the stakeholders pay attention to it.
