Lombard Renovations Lacking Local Representation
One District-205 board member isn't too keen on the lack of local subcontractors renovating a good chunk of the infrastructure at Lombard Middle School.

The board of education Monday night awarded $2.1 million dollars worth of bids to companies from East Moline, Peoria, and Goodfield, just to name a few.

Board member Robert Lindstrom says he thought the idea was to recruit local work.

"My recollection was one of the reasons we were seeking bids in these packages was to encourage local bidders," Lindstrom said. "It doesn't look like we were very successful in doing that, at least in getting successful local bidders. Do we have any reason why that didn't happen, why we didn't keep that goal?"

The question was directed to Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill.

Cahill says more local outreach is being done to change that with the second bid package for the $10.3 million dollars project. Solicitation of those bids were approved by the board Monday night as well.

This phase covers eighteen different areas and accounts for the remaining 80-percent of the planned renovations of Lombard Middle School.

In other news, Roy Van Meter was officially introduced by Superintendent Dr. Gene Denisar as the next principal of Galesburg High School. He'll replace Tom Chiles in the fall.
