Alderman Disappointed, but Optimistic Regarding Proposed Marijuana Ordinance
The man primarily responsible for the crafting of the city's proposed ordinance, which he says he can't say enough does NOT make marijuana legal in Galesburg, is taking a wait-and-see approach after hearing it won't be on the City Council agenda Monday.

Mayor Sal Garza reportedly told the city's Liquor Advisory Commission he's pulling the item, which would give police officers the option of issuing a city ordinance violation instead of an arrest for possession of small amounts of pot, off Monday night's City Council meeting agenda.

7th Ward Alderman Jeremy Karlin wanted the ordinance to begin with, and tells WGIL he'll wait, but he doesn't want to wait long.

"I'd like to speak with the mayor about his timeline for bringing it back to the city council," Karlin said. "The concerns that have been reported, at least I don't believe, necessitate a change in the ordinance, but perhaps a little more communication about what this ordinance means in the overall scheme of enforcement."

Those issues, other than the pot legalization misconception, include possibly providing for teen court as a possible penalty. Karlin says he thinks that could be done anyway.
