Late Afternoon Fire Causes Little Harm in Galesburg
It took only thirty minutes for Galesburg firefighters to contain a grass fire late Thursday afternoon.

Battallion Chief Chip Timmons says crews responded to 2717 West Fremont Street at 3:30pm Thursday. He says a Henderson brush truck and a crew from Galesburg's West Fremont Street station were called to the scene-- the Henderson firefighters simply because Galesburg isn't equipped with their own brush truck.

According to Timmons, the grass fire spread to a neighboring cornfield, but was still extinguished within a half hour. He says the fire caused no real significant damage, except to some of the grass and corn.

The cause of yesterday's small blaze is unknown at this time. Henderson firefighters are investigating how it ignited.
