State's Business Climate a Topic for Congressional Candidates
The three candidates running in Tuesday's democratic primary for the 17th Congressional District all differ on the state's supposed weak business climate.

As part of a live debate on Peoria public television W-T-V-P, Freeport Mayor George Gualrapp said Thursday night it will take cooperation on every level to restore the state's image.

"So often your congressman from the federal government never interact really with the state senators and state representatives, and I never figured out why," he said. "We should be working together. We have these districts, we represent cities, we represent people, but, we also represent the state of Illinois."

Augusta College employee Greg Aguiglar believes Illinois has the right people to make business better, and says the state must promote it's workforce.

"Businesses can thrive here, but as an elected official, I want to work with businesses to make sure we can create an environment that will allow them to succeed here in Illinois," Aguilar said.

Cheri Bustos, a former Quad Cities journalist, says by configuring the tax structure, Illinois can compete globally.

"We can be a destination, not just within the state, within the country, but worldwide for this area to be a destination for new manufacturing jobs," she said.

The three are gunning to unseat incumbent Bobby Schilling, a Colona Republican.

The newly redrawn 17th District represents fourteen area counties.
