Not Much Activity at Galesburg Primary Polls
By mid afternoon Tuesday, many precincts in Galesburg were reporting minimal activity for the Illinois Primary, and it continued throughout the day.

Election Judge of the 22nd Precinct, Florence Johnson, says only 44 of 685 registered voters casted a ballot by 2pm Tuesday.

Johnson tells WGIL it was a light day, to say the least, and she might know why.

"They're not coming out, and as one of the judges just said, it's a shame a person in a walker has to come out here with as bad as the wind is, and we can't get other people to come out here at all to vote for these things," Johnson said. "But, you kind of expect it. Because in the primary people just don't want you to know if they're a republican or a democrat, and that's where were at."

The 22nd, 21st, and 19th precincts reported only a combined 198 ballots received in the middle of the afternoon Tuesday-- only 9% of registered voters for those three precincts.

Election judges with the 19th precinct forecasted heavy traffic to the polls after 5pm, when most people are leaving work. But final numbers indicated only 15% of registered voters filled out ballots for the primary election. In 2008, around 35% of registered voters participated.

Some polls in Knox County reported issues of ballots being too large to fit into the scanning machines Tuesday. No Galesburg precincts reported any problems, but Knox was one of 24 counties statewide with problems. All votes were still tabulated.
