Another Economic Development Player Wants to Help Galesburg
FIRST REPORTED 3pm 3/22/12 A Moline-based economic development organization serving forty-nine area counties wants to provide their services to entrepreneurs and small businesses of Galesburg.

Midwest Intellectual Property Management Institute, or the IP Institute, recruits retirees for consultation and licenses patents from corporate partners like Deere and Co. to assist aspiring businesses.

Even though he's been impressed with the city's economic rebound, Executive Director Bill Ratzburg tells WGIL Galesburg could use "another tool in the toolbox" to strengthen the local economy.

"Galesburg has been very, very aggressive in terms of committing people and money in terms of making things happen and they're having some success," Ratzburg said. "We have an entire list of companies in the area that we are going to tend the market to-- some of the companies that are having success. Gates (Corporation) is having great success, Fusion (Tech) is having great success.

"And yet, we still think we can help them to have even more success."

Ratzburg and Talent Pool Director Julie Forsythe met with Mayor Sal Garza Thursday afternoon to discuss their economic initiative.

Ratzburg says he's already spoke with the city's economic development team. More information on the I-P Institute can be found at "MidwestIPI.com."
