City Council Considers Measures for Gates Expansion
The Galesburg City Council will have met every Monday night this month after Monday night, but Monday's meeting could allow a job expansion announced last week to move forward.

Aldermen will meet in special session Monday evening to consider an application for a grant under the city's Galesburg Employer Training Program by Gates Corporation.

The City and Gates announced last week live on WGIL the addition of 80 jobs at the plant due in part to the closure of a plant in Missouri.

Gates would be adding 80 jobs to the plant making rubber hoses, and the city would be giving Gates about 50-thousand dollars in cash for training.

The city also recommends allowing the grant despite the fact that the Gates plant isn't technically in Galesburg's City Limits, since they believe most of those applying for the work would live in or around Galesburg.

The city council will also consider allowing Gates to use the old National Guard armory on Broad Street for temporary storage of equipment and other items needed for the plant expansion.

Gates is investing over three-million dollars into the plant expansion.

The Galesburg City Council will meet at 5:30 Monday night inside council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
