Congressional Candidate Visits Green Business Incubator
A candidate for Congress says she's inspired by her recent trip to a business incubator in Galesburg.

17th District Democratic nominee Cheri Bustos says she recently toured the Sustainable Business Center in the former Carhartt plant and was "very impressed" with what she saw. The center boasts a number of local businesses, most notably firms like Intellihot and Lamboo, Incorporated, among others, along with a full commercial kitchen.

Bustos tells WGIL she thinks there should be more Sustainable Business Centers.

"It is a model of what we should be doing more of of, of what we should be looking into more," Bustos said. "You know, the Intellihot business there, I told the guy who invented that, 'boy you're on to something here that could just be phenomenal.'"

The East Moline Democrat says energy sustainability has to be a focus, especially if the nation wants to get rid of its dependence on foreign oil.

She says the 17th district could be, in her words, "the hub of energy sustainability."

The Congressional office of incumbent Bobby Schilling says he'll be visiting the center early next month.

Officials expect the SBC to be 75-percent occupied by the end of the year, sooner than originally projected.
