Suspected Culprit in Galesburg Bar Fight Makes Plea
A 30-year-old Galesburg man suspected of nearly killing an elderly man with a punch to the face at a bar pleaded not guilty this week.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate Antonio Cano pleaded his innocence through attorney Karl Johnson on Monday. He's been charged with three counts of aggravated battery, punishable by up to seven years in jail if found guilty of the crime.

Prosecutors allege that on the night of March 3rd at Smitty's Tap, Cano punched the elderly victim in the face while he was sitting on a bar stool. Reports show the man fell off his stool and bumped his head, but refused medical attention. However the following morning, prosecutors say the victim was unresponsive.

According to circuit court documents, Judge James Stewart denied a motion to reduce Cano's bond Monday also. He remains in Knox County Jail on $200,000 dollars bond.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for May 7th.
