Costumes a Hit for Galesburg's Polar Plunge
The 10th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge in Galesburg featured some glamorous costumes in support of benefiting Special Olympics in Illinois.

Santa Clause dropped his beard and a hundred pounds, as well as his shirt. A tourist plunged into Lake Storey thinking he had found the Mayan Rivera. And "Mr. T" hit the tide only to find out he had lost some of his bling.

"I lost one of my chains in the water!" he said. "So when someone finds that I hope they don't think it's real-- when they find some of that gold in there, thinking they struck a rich (discovery) here in Lake Storey."

6-time plunger and Eureka native Jim English can thank facebook for the spedo he wore Sunday.

"It was an incentive, I wasn't getting my donations like I was supposed to," English said. "And I put it out there on my facebook that if I raise $500 dollars I would wear a spedo. And as soon as I said that, I got $850 dollars."

That money is a part of more than $35,000 dollars raised for Special Olympics athletes in western Illinois.

Despite the spedo, English ranks his plunge Sunday as only the third coldest in his plunging career.
