Suspected Car Jacker Pleads Not Guilty
A Chicago man accused of stealing a Galesburg man's car last September pleaded his innocence in court Monday morning.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 20-year-old Michael Williams pleaded not guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking, armed robbery, and reckless discharge of a firearm, among other charges.

Williams is suspected of conspiring with four others on September 21st of last year to take a Galesburg man's vehicle at gunpoint. Reports then showed shots were fired in the 14-hundred block of North West Street, but the victim sustained only minor injuries from allegedly being pistol whipped in the face.

In addition to his not guilty plea Monday morning, Williams had his bond cut in half to $50,000 dollars by Judge James Stewart.

Williams turned himself into authorities last week after being indicted by a Knox County Grand Jury. The indictment filed reinstates all five charges that a judge previously dismissed in January due to lacking evidence.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Williams on May 5th. Three of the four other suspects had preliminary hearings Monday, the fourth suspect will be back in court later this month.
