Prison Time for Alleged Drug User
A Galesburg man will spend over a decade in prison after being convicted a few years ago of a pair of felony drug charges.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 28-year old Darrius Daniels was sentenced Tuesday to consecutive seven-year prison sentences on charges of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Daniels was first arrested in early August of 2010. Knox County Assistant State's Attorney Erik Gibson says Daniels was involved in a drug buy with undercover police officers in late-July of 2010, and again a few weeks later in early August.

Daniels was convicted by a jury last December on those charges. He was one of 15 people announced in August of 2010 as being arrested following a three-month drug investigation.

Most of the other 14 have already been through the legal system.

In addition to the prison time, Daniels must also pay $2,200 in fines, and will be on parole when he's let go from prison.

Gibson says the sentence was appropriate given Daniels' criminal history.

The conviction and sentences could still be appealed.
