Probable Cause for Man Facing Meth Charges
A Galesburg man can be tried on felony charges accusing him of having a mobile methamphetamine lab in his car late last year.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge James Stewart Tuesday found probable cause for 31-year old Jerel Deatherage to be tried on the Class-X felony counts of Unlawful Participation in Methamphetamine Production, Participation in Meth Manufacturing, Possession of Meth, and Possession of Meth With Intent to Deliver -- along with the Class-Two Felony counts of Possession of Meth-Manufacturing Chemicals and Possession of a Meth Precursor.

A Knox County Sheriffs Deputy testified that he stopped Deatherage's vehicle on a rural Knox County road Christmas eve originally for speeding.

He says he approached the vehicle, smelled ammonia, and discovered some tubing and a backpack in a seat. That led to the calling in of the state police meth response team, which found more equipment and meth ingredients, as well as suspected meth in liquid and powder forms.

Deatherage pleaded not guilty through attorney Kim Norton and asked for a jury trial. He'll next be in court June fourth for a pre-trial hearing.

Deatherage is out of jail after posting bond.
