Knox County Considers Expanding Health Services
There's no community health center in Warren County, and Knox County is considering offering up their health services to residents there.

Health Department Administrator Heidi Britton said at Thursday night's Knox County Board of Health meeting it's a topic debated internally each month.

She says providing services outside of the county will risk harming the sensitivity of tax payers. But by waiting to become a federally qualified health center, Britton says there's federal support beyond Knox County limits.

While F-Q-H-C status is not even guaranteed this year, Board Member Dr. Tommy West says waiting may be the wise move.

"You're going to open pandora's box, and with no cashlow at all here, the last thing we need to do here is to say we need to put a quota on the Monmouth people," West said. "Because the Knox County people are supporting them."

"See, that would be unpalatable, that would be really politically wrong, about that," he said.

"Or to open the door and later on shut the door," added Board member Dr. Lance Renfroe. He says he supports the measure because it brings in additional patients.

Britton says five to ten Warren County residents are denied service at the community health center each month.

The board will begin discussing ways both Warren and Knox counties can benefit from some kind of health service partnership.
