City Council Braves Cold To Discuss Armory
The level of details were low and so was the temperature inside the vacant National Guard Armory Monday night.

The Galesburg City Council met in closed door executive session at the armory to discuss matters of leasing the building and pending litigation.

Aldermen walked around the armory separately for about 15 minutes before meeting up in a back room.

Mayor Sal Garza tells WGIL there have been some general improvements to the site.

"The Council wanted to do a walk through as time-to-time we'll get questions on this building so they really were doing a status on the condition of the interior of this facility," says Garza.

Any details on the sale of the vacant property were hard to come by.

The City currently owns the site and has been looking for ways to develop it for quite some time.

Garza says touring the building will help in future negotiations.

"The value of the building itself has increased because of what you just see, the general cleaning as well as the plumbing and electrical work that's been done," says Garza.

With heat in the building turned off, temperatures inside are below 40 degrees. Many of the aldermen were wearing winter coats.

The City recently ended an agreement with a developer who wanted to turn the space into an events center and martial arts studio.
