Galesburg Man Guilty of Molesting a Minor
A Galesburg man is guilty of charges accusing him of having sexual contact with his girlfriend's young daughter between 2010 and last year.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge Scott Shipplett Friday convicted 28-year old Calvin Williams of two counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Shipplett found Williams not guilty of another assault charge.

Shipplett agreed with Knox County Assistant State's Attorney Elisa Tanner, in that testimony from the 10-year old girl taken in private, and seen in videotaped evidence, was credible and mostly consistent.

The girl claims that Williams molested her on a number of occasions, usually in her bedroom, and she claims, often as she slept.

During closing arguments, Public Defender Jim Harrell picked apart the girl's testimony, and called into question the testimony of Department of Children and Family Services investigator, among others.

Williams claimed he worked third shift, so that meant he couldn't have committed the acts. Shipplett, however, said that does not preclude him from doing it.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for May 29th.
