Potential Hostage Situation Near WIU Turned Out to be Hoax
What was thought to be a police standoff near the campus of Western Illinois University in Macomb Wednesday night turned out to be a hoax.

That's according to the university and state police. Officers were initially called to a home in five-hundred block of West Murray Street in Macomb after it was reported that a man was inside the home with a gun. Streets were blocked off, and the situation was near the Macomb campus.

But Macomb Police Chief Curt Baker said late last night that the whole thing was a hoax. That was after a state police tactical response team sent a robot in to the home and determined no one was there.

Baker told reporters he doesn't believe the call came from the home's but they're not sure who called it in just yet.

No arrests have yet been made.
