Arrest Made In WIU Hoax Incident
An arrest has been made in a Macomb incident that led authorities to believe they were dealing with a hostage situation, but turned out to be a hoax.

The situation occurred Wednesday evening where officers were initially called to a home in five-hundred block of West Murray Street near the Western Illinois University campus.

It was reported that a man was inside the home with a gun. Streets were blocked off for the situation which occurred near the Macomb campus.

Macomb police arrested 25 year old Alvin Montgomery in connection with the hoax. WIU campus police arrested Montgomery on an unrelated warrant out of Dekalb.

Once in custody, Macomb Police interviewed Montgomery and arrested him for the hoax.

The incident, while in progress, prompted the University to issue a warning to its students to be cautious while travelling near the area.

Montgomery is being charged with individual counts of felony disorderly conduct and attempted obstruction of justice.

The two counts are being added to the charges on the Dekalb warrant.
