Knox County Fair Board Having Major Financial Woes
The Knox County Fair Board is turning to The Knoxville City Council to get some help with their struggling finances.

Director of the Knox County Fair Board Tim Eagle showed up at the March council meeting to talk with Alderman about their current water rate.

Because the Knox County Fair Grounds are outside the Knoxville City limits the Knox County Fair Board pays double the rate of Knoxville residents who reside inside the city limits.

Eagle explained the Fair board has gone through their budget line item by line item looking for ways to reduce spending and water rates stuck out.

"This is one of the things we just can't afford to sustain as an expense and we are not begging, we are not demanding and we are not trying to create confrontation. We are trying to utilize a line of communication and ask you if you have suggestions and is there anyway that you can possibly help us."

Alderman talked about a few ideas including redrafting the water rate ordinance to say anyone outside the Knoxville City limits with the exception of non-profit 503C organizations would pay double the current water rate.

That would mean the Knox County Fair Board would get to pay the regular water rate.

There was also talk about donating more to the Fair Board for the County Fair from the Hotel-Motel Tax.

The City Council will discuss the matter further and possibly vote on it at their next meeting.
