Quinn Wants Nationwide Search for Teachers Retirement System Head
Gov. Pat Quinn says a nationwide search should begin for the new head of an Illinois teachers' pension fund.

Teachers Retirement System executive director Jon Bauman has said that he plans to resign from his $236,000-a-year position.

The teachers' pension fund has been embroiled in the scandal connected to ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Bauman hasn't been accused of wrongdoing.

Bauman was in charge when aides to Blagojevich allegedly tried to squeeze campaign contributions out of businesses seeking investments from the TRS. Blagojevich was indicted last week on corruption allegations involving the scheme.

Quinn signed a law last week overhauling state pension systems that specifically called for Bauman's ouster July 1. He says the nationwide search for Bauman's replacement should begin, but he says he doesn't want a final hiring decision made until he makes his appointments to the pension fund board.
