Bill to Reallocate State Lottery Money Fails
People who play the Illinois Lottery more would have had their own school districts benefit more, under a bill which has failed in the Illinois House. The bill, sponsored by State Rep. LaShawn Ford (D-Chicago), would have re-allocated lottery proceeds to schools based on sales in each school district.

State Rep. David Reis (R-Sainte Marie) pointed out his sparsely populated district has many fewer lottery retailers than a large city does. But Ford called it "disrespectful" to suggest he wants to hurt rural school districts. Another Chicagoan, Rep. John Fritchey (D-Chicago), called Ford's bill "innovative" and "insightful."

Rep. Bill Black (R-Danville) says the bill had really no provisions to back up the school districts which would be getting less money.

HB 618 has failed in the House, 37-77-1.
