Water Projects See Funding With Federal Dollars
Some of the federal stimulus funds coming to Illinois will be used for wastewater and drinking water projects.

Marcia Willhite of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency says the Illinois EPA will receive $180 million for wastewater projects and $80 million for drinking water projects. Willhite says additional funds may be made available with the passage of a proposed capital bill. The governor's major capital bill, which has yet to be passed, includes an additional $260 million.

The Illinois EPA keeps a list of approved projects that are waiting for funding. Willhite says the federal dollars will be allocated on a "readiness to proceed" basis. The agency will reserve a portion of the federal funds for projects that focus on "green" infrastructure, water or energy efficiency improvements or other environmentally innovative activities.

A list of projects seeking funding from the Illinois EPA can be found online at www.epa.state.il.us.
