The leaders of Illinois' Legislative Black Caucus Wants Another Task Force.
The Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education wants some action from Illinois lawmakers. Chairman Michael Toney says too many black males are in prison, and not enough are in college. He says lawmakers should push for new laws that will help the education system to better engage black males from kindergarten through college and even graduate school.

He says one way to do that is to have more colleges and universities create black male programs. Toney says about half of the state's institutions of higher learning have done that already.

This group also hopes state lawmakers will approve a 19-member School Success Task Force to focus specifically on truancy, suspensions, and expulsions among black males.

The committee will have a conference in mid-April about how to help black males stay in the educational system. More information is at www.icbche.org.
