Historic Sites Opening Again
The state historic sites ordered closed late last year by then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich will re-open, possibly as soon as next week. Gov. Pat Quinn continued his un-doing of many of Blagojevich’s decisions by making that announcement Wednesday.

A state spokesman says the 33 employees laid off Dec. 1 have been issued recall notices to report to work on Wednesday (April 22).

"If all goes well, we should start to re-open all of the closed state historic sites beginning late next week," says Dave Blanchette, spokesman for the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

Both Quinn and Blanchette say especially in this Lincoln bicentennial year, closing tourist attractions is not good business.

The affected sites:

Apple River Fort, Elizabeth
Bishop Hill State Historic Site
Hauberg Indian Museum, Black Hawk State Historic Site, Rock Island
Cahokia Courthouse, Cahokia
Carl Sandburg State Historic Site, Galesburg
Dana Thomas House, Springfield
Fort du Chartres, Prairie du Rocher
Fort Kaskaskia, Ellis Grove
Pierre Menard Home, Ellis Grove
Jubilee College, Brimfield
Lincoln Log Cabin, Charleston
