Knox College Hosts Green Solutions Expo
POSTED 5:30pm 4/22/09 One local college participated in an Earth Day celebration by holding an expo to highlight green programs within the community. Knox College hosted the third annual Green Solutions Expo Wednesday, which featured over 30 groups and businesses presenting how they are either producing an energy efficient product or how a company mitigates its impact on the environment.

Linda Lee Blaine, Director of the Prairie Tech Learning Center in Monmouth, said Knox has been a wonderful partner in green initiatives including her time working with the sustainability committee, and the CARES group on campus. Blaine tells WGIL the expo is being held to celebrate green groups and businesses.

"The whole point is to encourage people to be environmentally-friendly, and also to celebrate all the wonderful organizations that already are trying to be environmentally-friendly" Blaine said.

Blaine tells WGIL green aspects will soon bring jobs to the area, even sooner in one local community. "I think people tend to think of green issues and green technology are things that are only happening in the bigger areas, and it's not true," Blaine said. "The wind energy is a huge thing in Warren County alone. There's three wind farm projects in the works."

Knox College President Roger Taylor said four years ago there were just a few professors interested in green solutions. He said once the students picked up the cause, they were off and running.

Taylor called the sustainability issue as one of the most important issues of our time.
