Pigs Also At Risk Of Contracting Swine Flu
A central Illinois hog farmer says pork is safe to eat in the wake of all the coverage of the swine flu.

Ken Doyle is co-owner of Hickory Grove Pork Farm in Gillespie. He says the swine flu presents no risk to people consuming pork. Doyle says swine flu does not exist in hog herds in the US. He says he thinks the name is a misnomer because the virus that is currently affecting humans is not the same as the one that is affecting hogs in Mexico.

Doyle says, however, that pigs are susceptible to a number of human illnesses, which is why they employ bio-security controls such as wearing protective clothing to prevent hogs from getting sick.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture says Swine Flu can be tracked into farm facilities on clothing or boots.
