Galesburg Alderman Running for Treasurer
Another Galesburg alderman is seeking a different office in local government, and is doing so through a write-in campaign.

Third Ward Alderman Russell Fleming has issued a statement saying he's running as a write-in candidate for the office of Galesburg City Treasurer. Another alderman, the fifth ward's Karen Lafferty, is one of the nine mayoral candidates.

Fleming has been an alderman for only the past two years, and is retired after serving as an accountant and auditor, working for the IRS and the State, primarily at Henry Hill Correctional Center -- and he says that experience makes him the ideal candidate.

In an e-mail to WGIL, Fleming says, "People are looking for a fresh face to serve the public, and in a more professional way." He says if elected, he wants to make sure financial information is released to the public in both a timely and professional manner.

Fleming is running against current and appointed treasurer Marv Dahlberg, and local businessman Mike Kroll in Tuesday's election.

The treasurer's race is only one of a number of local and area races we'll profile as part of our consolidated election preview, which will air Sunday at noon, and Monday night at 7, on Galesburg Radio 14 WGIL.
