| Galesburg 2008 Expenses Came in Better than Expected |
The final adjustments to the City of Galesburg's budget for the last calendar/fiscal year have been completed, and a top city officials says the numbers came out pretty well.
The Galesburg City Council Monday night voted to approve the second budget adjustment they've had to make for the fiscal year that ended December 31st, and City Manager Dane Bragg says revenues came in a little bit over expenditures, even with rising costs before a recession was officially declared.
Bragg told aldermen the budget adjustments needed to occur as some actual numbers were worked out. "There were some previously-approved additional expenditures by the council, including the upgrades to the Lakeside and City Hall roof projects, to upgrade those to longer-lifespan metal roofing," Bragg said. "Additional salt purchases were necessary over the winter. And, naturally, the accounting for overtime and personnel costs."
Bragg says expenditures in the city's General Fund worked out to $22.5 million in 2008, roughly 97% of what was budgeted. He says that's about as good as it can get.
The City Council Monday night also voted in favor of entering into agreements with the Illinois Department of Transportation for federal economic stimulus monies to be spend on the proposed resurfacing of sections of two streets -- projects totaling $1 million in stimulus money.
Aldermen also approved beginning demolition action on 693 Day Street, despite some concern about a change in ownership at that property. |
