Dahlberg Defeats Kroll, Fleming for Full Term as Treasurer
The man appointed to replace Galesburg's retiring City Treasurer at the beginning of last year now gets to the job for a full term.

Galesburg voters chose Marv Dahlberg over businessman Mike Kroll and write-in candidate, Third Ward Alderman Russell Fleming Tuesday, 54% to Kroll's 44%, and Fleming's 2%. Fleming didn't enter the race until this past weekend, leaving him little time to campaign as a write-in candidate.

Dahlberg tells WGIL he has plenty to do, especially knowing he now has four years to do it. "I want to continue our money management over the next four years," Dahlberg said. I think there's some additional enhancements. I know we're going to be unveiling an online payment system before too long. There's some other things that are going to be done as well."

Dahlberg says it was a longer and harder campaign than he thought it would be, though he says since it was his first foray into campaigning, he had nothing to compare it to.

Dahlberg had no words for either of his two opponents following his victory. Dahlberg and Kroll were often at odds with each other during the campaign.

Dahlberg took over as treasurer January first, 2008, after Becky Mason retired.

In another Galesburg race, Kelli Bennewitz was uncontested for a full term as Galesburg City Clerk, a post she ascended to following Anita Carlton's retirement earlier this year.
