New Face as Galesbug 4th Ward Alderman
A Galesburg woman is set to take her spot on the Galesburg City Council.

Corine Andersen defeated both Lomac Payton and Tony Gerk in her bid to become the 4th Ward Alderwoman on the council. Anderson received 48 percent of the vote, while Payton came away with 33 percent and Gerk gained 20 percent of voter ballots.

Andersen tells WGIL she's ready to learn new things while trying to bring residents closer. "Read a lot, talk to people, learn the sort of nitty-gritty of what I have to do, and just continue with my vision of bringing my people together," Andersen said.

Her incumbent opponent, Lomac Payton, tells WGIL he's unsure of advice to give Anderson. "I really don't know what kind of advice I can give her," Payton said. "She seemed to know, you know, about everything that's going on. I really listened to her...during the debate and everything. So, I don't know if there's any advice I can give her."

Payton says he plans to go to his final meetings and doesn't know what he will do after that, jokingly saying he may just go to Disneyland, but he would have to ask his wife first.

Anderson will be sworn in as an alderwoman in May.
