Dennis Unseats Kendall in Galesburg Ward 2
The closest race in Tuesday's election allowed a Galesburg resident to take the place of an eight year veteran of the Galesburg City Council.

Wayne Dennis defeated incumbent Bill Kendall in the race for the 2nd Ward's aldermanic seat. Dennis received 53% of the vote compared to Kendall's 47%, a difference of only 31 votes.

Kendall says he wasn't surprised by the outcome seeing as people told him they were ready for a change and tells WGIL Dennis should be prepared to hear from city residents during his time on the council.

"I think the most important thing is to be accessible. Don't worry about what ward (someone is) in when they call you," Kendall said. "A lot of times, all of us receive calls from people all over the city. They don't always call the alderman in their (ward); they'll call someone they're comfortable with talking to. You need to be accessible."

Dennis tells WGIL he's in an uphill battle with all the work that needs to be done but he's up for the challenge. "We've got a lot of things on our plate right now," Dennis said. "But, I think, if everybody works together, we can do the right stuff. For a 70-year old Irishman, I'll get out there and try to do the right job."

Dennis says he was surprised by the results but excited to get to work. He will be seated on the council in May.
