Rutherford Ignores Radio, TV, Newspapers in Exploratory Committee Announcement
State Sen. Dan Rutherford (R-Chenoa) is announcing his next step in preparing for a run for the state treasurer's office: He is forming an exploratory committee to raise funds and drum up preliminary support. The office is currently occupied by popular Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, who's thinking about running for U.S. Senate.

Rutherford made this announcement on YouTube, then on FaceBook, then on Twitter. He says he wanted to reach out quickly to his followers, rather than waiting to making the announcement to the media. He also claims that he handles virtually every detail of his political site, and other site accounts.

In 2006, Rutherford ran unsuccessfully for secretary of state.
