Hare Says He's Telling Truth About Health Care Bill
The health care overhaul bill passed by Congress continues to create controversy, but a local Congressman says he's just telling people the truth.

17th District Democrat Phil Hare talked with senior citizens about the bill at the Galesburg Community Center Thursday -- one of a number of stops he's making to talk about what he calls the misinformation and "half-truths" spread about the measure before, during, and after debate on it, and continuing now that the President has signed it into law.

The Galesburg native told seniors one of the things no one seems to be hearing about through the clutter is how health care clinics and hospitals in his district will benefit from the bill.

"In my district alone, there's money in this bill...to renovate, or expand, or build 19 community health care clinics," Hare said. "$67 million coming to my district to help the hospitals pay...because of people using their hospitals...for an emergency room."

Hare says the truth is not being told on Medicare changes in the measure. He says yes, there are cuts to Medicare, but all the cuts are simply government waste, and no one's coverage is going away or being reduced.

Hare says he doesn't think despite Republicans' best efforts, the measure will be repealed, because he doesn't think there will be the votes to make it happen.
