Local School District Among 15 Getting Millions in Technology Grants
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Fifteen Illinois school districts, including one in Warren County, will get $10 million in federal grants to enhance literacy and math education with technology.

The federal stimulus money will pay for items such as laptop computers, computer notebooks and other "one-to-one" technological devices.

Eligible districts were those that have high percentages of low-income families and serve one or more schools identified as needing improvement under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Districts that needed assistance acquiring technology were also eligible. United District 304 is getting $480,000.

Local education partnerships with high-need districts were allowed to apply too as long as they included schools that are integrating technology into learning, were higher education institutions in need of improvement or a for-profit technology business or organization.
