April Marks Child Abuse Prevention Month
As Illinois launches Child Abuse Prevention Month, groups from around the state are being recognized for their efforts in preventing child abuse. One such group is Reagan's Rescue in Danville. It was created by the family of Reagan Williams, who died in 2006 at the age of 2 1/2, the victim of Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Reagan's great-grandparents, Jim and Roberta Williams of Danville, say Reagan's Rescue helps their son, Reagan's grandfather, Greg Williams, to teach middle and high school students about the dangers of SBS. They say they want Reagan to be a cause, not a statistic.

Abuse is an ever-increasing problem, according Denise McCaffrey, director of prevention awareness and education at Prevent Child Abuse Illinois. In speaking at a Child Abuse Prevention Month event at the governor's mansion in Springfield, McCaffrey urged state lawmakers to restore funding to prevention organizations, and expressed the need for more awareness programs and training for parents, judges, and attorneys.

Prevention groups held events around the state in honor of the month. For more information about Reagan's Rescue, CLICK HERE.
